Welcome from Principal Daniel Bettin
Phone: 507-247-5911 ext 3005
My name is Daniel Bettin. I am the High School Principal and Activities Director at RTR High School. This is my 31st year in education, 22nd year as a principal and 5th year at RTR. I spent my first 7 years in Gwinner, ND as a K-12 Physical Education/Health/Driver Education instructor and then 1 year as a PE instructor in Menahga, MN. While attending Minnesota State University-Mankato for my Masters Degree, I taught PE 1 year at John Ireland Catholic School in St. Peter, MN. During my teaching career I have coached football, basketball, volleyball, baseball, and track. I am a strong supporter of music and drama programs as well. So much can be learned while participating in extra-curricular activities that I would encourage all of our students to become involved in some type of extra-curricular, whether it’s in athletics or another school organization.
I began my administrative career as the 7-12 Principal/Activities Director at Cedar Mountain School District in Morgan, MN. I was at CM for 2 years. I then became the K-8 Principal at Yellow Medicine East Schools in Clarkfield, MN for 2 years. After that, I served 9 years as the 9-12 Principal at Breckenridge Schools in Breckenridge, MN. While at Breckenridge I also taught part-time one year in PE and coached football one year. I was named the Western Division Principal of the Year in 2006 and served as President of the Division during the 2005-06 school year. After Breckenridge, I became the K-12 Principal/Activities Director at Floodwood. I was in Floodwood for 3 years. I also coached football in Floodwood. I then became the 6-12 Principal in Ely and was there for one year. While in Ely, I also served as the Head Girls Basketball coach.
I strongly believe in education. One of my goals is for the RTR Schools is to provide many valuable learning opportunities for our students and give them the background and experience they need to be successful in the future. I want all students to be prepared for life after high school. I believe that parent involvement in their children’s education is very important. Research shows that students, with parental involvement in their education, perform much higher in school. I strongly encourage all parents to become involved in their child’s learning and education. You will find I hold students to the 3 general requirements – Responsibility, Respect, and Accountability. Also, I believe that we are constantly learning throughout life. I want RTR High School to provide experiences that are valuable to our students. During the school day, you will find me in the halls, visiting with students or teachers, and making sure our students are learning in a safe environment. At night you will find me supervising almost every extra-curricular event offered at RTR High School.
My family has a strong belief in education. My wife, Linda, is a highly qualified paraprofessional. She is presently a paraprofessional in the RTR High School. She has been a para in all the school districts I’ve worked in, either as a sub or as a hired staff member. We have 2 children, Daniel Jr. (DJ) age 27 and Leah age 24. DJ is a 2010 graduate of BHS and served in Kuwait with the 188th out of Wahpeton, ND. He served a one year tour with his unit. He recently was hired at RTR as the High School night time custodian. He is enrolled at Bemidji State University and is taking on-line classes to become a teacher. Leah is a 2012 graduate of Floodwood High School. She presently lives in Sioux Falls, SD. We also have 2 grown children with families and 4 grandchildren living in North Dakota and South Dakota. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends at the lake, coaching sports, hunting, fishing, golfing, and attending sporting events.
My door is always open. Please feel free to give me a call or stop at the School office and share your thoughts or concerns. I can be reached by phone at 507-247-5911 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
