Minnesota Achieve Scholarship

The Minnesota Achieve Scholarship provides financial assistance to eligible Minnesota students who complete a qualifying secondary school program and are attending a Minnesota institution. Eligible students can receive a $1,200 award to be paid in two equal payments with second payment made after completion of the first term.

Minnesota Academic Excellence Scholarship

The Minnesota Academic Excellence Scholarship helps students who have demonstrated outstanding ability, achievement, and potential in one of several subjects: English or creative writing, fine arts, foreign language, math, science, or social science. Students must enroll at a nonsectarian public or private Minnesota college or university to receive this award. Renewable scholarships of up to the full amount of tuition at a public university in the state are available through this program.

Minnesota Public Safety Officers' Survivor Grant

The Minnesota Public Safety Officer's Survivor Grant provides educational benefits to dependent children and the surviving spouse of a public safety officer killed in the line of duty on or after January 1, 1973.

The Minnesota Indian Scholarship Program

The Minnesota Indian Scholarship Program provides money to help Native American students pay for their higher education. Scholarships are available to eligible American Indian students who are undergraduate or graduate students enrolled full or three-fourths time. To qualify, students must:

§   Have one-fourth or more Indian ancestry

§   Be a resident of Minnesota

§   Be a high school graduate or have a GED certificate

White Earth Scholarship Program

To be eligible for the White Earth Scholarship Program, students must be an enrolled member of the White Earth Band of Chippewa (descendents ineligible). Eligible students must attend an accredited post-secondary institution and must not have defaulted on any student loans.

Students that will be attending a post-secondary institution outside Minnesota must be seeking a degree or diploma in a program that is at least 2 years in length. There are no exceptions. Eligible students who qualify for this scholarship can receive up to $4,500 per institutional calendar year.

Northwest Airlines Pilots’ Wives Club:  Awards two $1,800 scholarships that allow high school seniors and college freshmen, sophomores and juniors to explore the field of cardiovascular research by working in a MN research lab during the summer months.  Applications online at: www.heart.org/mnscholarships

Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship: $1,000-15,000/yr for students who demonstrate scholarship, leadership & financial need.  Go through local Elks lodge.

“Top Ten List” Scholarship 2009.  Five $1,000 awards. Applicants must be 13 years or older.  Short written response: “Create a ‘top ten list’ of the craziest or most unique scholarships you have heard of, and briefly describe each scholarship.  Note: the awards may be real or fictional.” See scholarship binder or apply online: scholarshipExperts.com

The Celebration of Women & Their Arts: Five awards ranging from $250 to $500 will be given to female high school students in the arts at the 12th annual “Celebration of Women & Their Music” on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at the Fargo Theatre.  Applications available in the scholarship binder or more information (including application) can be found online at: www.areafoundation.org/scholarships or by calling 701-234-0756.

Sam Walton community Scholarship: A non-renewable $1,000 scholarship available online at www.walmartfoundation.org.  All high school seniors who are not a Wal-mart or Sam’s club associate, or the child or legal dependent of an associate are eligible for application.

MN Council for the Social Studies: Bill Manierich Memorial Scholarship, $500.  Application plus essay on given topic.  More info online: www.mcss.org/scholarship

KFC Colonel’s Scholars Program: Up to $5,000 per year for tuition, fees, books, and room and board.  KFC’s Colonel Scholars Program was created in 2006 and is dedicated to assisting students with financial need who plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree.  Eligibility requirements: 1) high school graduate 2) GPA of 2.75 or higher 3) Enroll in public, in-state college or university 4) Pursue a bachelor’s degree 5) U.S. Citizen or permanent resident.  Scholars may begin their college career by entering either a 2 or 4 year college or university within their state of legal residence, as long as they stay on track to complete a bachelor’s degree program.  Online application only: www.kfcscholars.org

World Class: The Mediacom Scholarship Program: Mediacom communications will award up to fifty $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school students attending accredited post-secondary institutions in the Fall of 2010.  Applications in binder or online at www.mediacomworldclass.com.  In addition to the applications, applicants must include an essay on leadership and obtain two recommendation letters.

Lyon-Lincoln Electric Co-op: $1,000 Basin Electric Scholarship for a dependent of Lyon-Lincoln Co-op member/customer.  For a senior planning to be a full time student at an accredited college.  Application in binder or online:

AFA Teens for Alzheimer’s Awareness College Scholarship: Applicants should submit an autobiography and write a 1,200 word essay about how Alzheimer’s has affected their life.  One $5,000, one $500, one $250 awards.  Application in binder or online at www.afateens.org.

Ronald McDonald House Charities National Scholarship Program: offering scholarships to students from communities who face limited access to educational and career opportunities.  These awards are open to high school seniors are at a minimum of $1,000.  Scholarship recipients must enroll in and attend a two or four year college or university in the academic year following their selection. 

Deadline: February 15, 2009.

 

Burger King Scholars Program: up to 700, $1,000 scholarships available.  Criteria for eligibility:

            Maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher

            Work part-time an average of 15 hrs/week, 40 weeks per yr

            Demonstrate participation in community service and/or co-curricular act.

            Demonstrate financial need

Plan to enroll in two or four year college by Fall of the application year

Minnesota Soybean research & Promotion Council: Up to six $1,000 scholarships are being offered to MN high school seniors who plan to pursue a post-secondary education in the field of agriculture.  Applicants must be a MN resident, from a family who is active in agriculture, 2010 graduate, active in both agriculture and the community, pursuing an education in an agriculture, agribusiness or food science area & plan to enroll in a 2 or 4 year accredited college or technical college.  Applications are available in the binder or online at: www.mnsoybean.org

Minnesota School Counselor Association Scholarship Program: High school seniors who are currently attending a public or private high school in MN and plan to attend a post-secondary institution in the fall of 2010-2011 school year are eligible to apply.  Eleven $500 scholarships will be awarded (one for the southwest, MN division).  Fill out application and write a 1-pgae essay describing how a licensed school counselor or counseling program has helped or encouraged them with a personal or academic accomplishment.  Application in binder or online at www.mnschoolcounselors.org.

Minnesota Women’s Golf Association: Scholarship is for the amount of $3,000 per year, renewable for 4 consecutive years ($12,000 maximum).  Applicant must have a 3.2 GPA or above.  The scholarship is awarded on the bases of scholastic rating, financial need, and school achievements, leadership and activities.  Candidates shall demonstrate an interest or involvement in the sport of golf.

Minnesota AFL-CIO Scholarship: Awarding five $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors who are union members or the dependents of union members whose local union is affiliated with the Minnesota AFL-CIO.  Students must have a straight “B” average or better and plan to attend a post-secondary institution in Minnesota.

Applicants must have a high school degree or GED and plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school by fall of the year in which the award is granted.
