IMPORTANT REGISTRATION INFORMATION

 

I.                   Graduation Standards for RTR High School:

 

a.          Satisfactory completion of a minimum of 23 credits in grades 9-12.

 

b.          The following credits are required:

                                                           

1.          Four credits in English

2.          Three & ½  credits in Social Studies – US History (1), Geography (1), Gov’t (.5) & Civics (1)                (starting the class of 2008)

3.          Two credits in Mathematics (starting the class of 2008 three credits in Math)

4.          Two credits in Science (starting the class of 2008 three credits in Science)

5.          One credit in Physical Education 9-10

6.          One credit in Health 9-10

7.          ½ credit in Speech I

8.          ½ credit in Economics

9.    One credit in Fine Arts (starting the class of 2008)

 

In addition to the required classes and electives, a student shall demonstrate competency in the statewide standards for MATHEMATICS, READING AND WRITTEN COMPOSITION.

 

 

MN Testing Requirements for Graduation:

            BST Math & Reading               (retest through the class of 2009)

            BST Written Composition                     (retest through the class of 2009)

            MCA II Written Composition   9th  grade – class of 2010; 10th grade – class of 2009

            MCA II Reading                                  10th grade

            MCA II Math                                       11th grade

 

Other MN Testing Requirements:

            MCA II Science (Biology)        10th grade  (starting 2007-2008)

 

 

II.                Miscellaneous:

 

a.          Number of Classes – You are expected to register for a minimum of 6 classes each year.  One of those may be Band and/or Choir.  All students in grades 9-12 may have 1 full period study hall; homeroom is not a study hall.

b.          Prerequisite – a “prerequisite” is a subject required before you take certain other

subjects.  Please study carefully the description in this booklet to learn whether or not subjects have prerequisites.

c.          Program Changes – No student is authorized to change his/her class schedule

without the approval of the Principal or Counselor and the Teachers involved.  These approvals must be shown on a CHANGE OF SCHEDULE form, which can be obtained from the Principal’s Office.  Changes in registration are possible up to one week after each semester starts, with approval and after the original registration only if class sections are not filled and there are not conflicts with other classes.

 

 

 

 

POST SECONDARY ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

 

Minnesota State University System

English:             4 years; composition, literature, speech

Mathematics:                3 years; 2 years of algebra and 1 year of geometry

Science:                        3 years; 3 lab sciences

Social Science: 3 years

World Language:          2 years; (same language)

Fine Arts or                  1 year

World Cultures

Minnesota Technical & Community College System

The following high school classes are STRONGLY RECOMMENDED:

English:             4 years including oral and written communication

Mathematics:                3 years, algebra, applied mathematics and/or geometry

Science:                        3 years, applied biology, principles of technology, chemistry, applied chemistry physics

Social Science: 4 years

Electives:                      Specific to career plans

 

Students must possess a high school diploma, G.E.D., or demonstrate the potential for being a successful college student.  The Minnesota State University System admissions requirements are STRONGLY RECOMMENDED.     World language is NOT a community college requirement.

 

For requirements for admissions into out-of-state public and private universities, technical, and community colleges, and/or the military, please contact your School Counselor.

 

Reciprocity States – MN graduates may attend public college’s in the following states without paying out of state tuition rates.

Minimum GPA and ACT scores are different in each state.  Check the schools you are interested in.  All 4-year institutions require ACT tests.

 

 

 

SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

 

Selecting the proper subjects and doing well in them is, of course, of primary importance, but, in order to receive maximum benefits during your high school career, it is strongly recommended that you also participate in one or more school activities.  Belonging to a club, an athletic team, the school band, etc., not only makes school life more enjoyable, but, are very important to you in later life.  The following is a list of school activities in which you may wish to participate.
