The 9th grade class will be going on a field trip to the Lincoln County Courthouse on Wed., Feb. 8 from 1:00- 3:20

 

Each February is recognized as American Heart Month  - On Monday, February 13 the RTR FCCLA Senior Chapter is hosting a Red Out Event in cooperation with the RTR vs. Hills Beaver Creek Basketball game.  Get your Basketball Themed t-shirt for the Red Out event before they are gone.  Sign up for sizes in Mrs. Borman’s room.  Cost is $6.00. 

 

DRIVER EDUCATION:  A classroom session of driver education is scheduled to begin on March 13th.  The deadline to register for the class is February 24th.  Registration packets are available in Deb’s Office and the Superintendent’s Office.  Class size is limited to the first 22 students who are registered and paid.  Driver education information can be found on the RTR website…  www.rtrschools.org

 

The Community Bloodmobile will be at the high school parking lot on Tuesday, February 14.  Please see Mrs. Jensen or Kristin Knudsen about signing up for a time (Bloodmobile will be here from 8:30 – 4:30) you would like to donate. The Bloodmobile is open to the community.  If you are interested in donating please call the school to make an appointment.         

 

The second yearbook sale will run until the end of Feb.  The books are now $45.  Get an order form outside of Mrs. Klumper’s room.  Return the form along with your payment to Deb or Mrs. Klumper!

Just a reminder to request a pin number for yourself AND your parent must request a pin number.  This takes a few days so please do this before you begin on your FAFSA form.  The Pin request site URL is:            http://www.pin.ed.gov/PINWebApp/appinstr.jsp

The FAFSA online website URL is: www.fafsa.ed.gov  do not go to the fafsa.com website…they will charge you a fee and it is a free process to apply for financial aid.

Good luck with your financial aid process.  Remember, please have all of your financial aid information completed and submitted online BEFORE March 1.

FCS will award up to 24 $500 scholarships to graduating high school students pursuing post-secondary education.  Preference may be given to applicants pursuing an education in agriculture or related field.  Must possess a GPA of 3.0 or better and parents of the student or the student must be a United FCS customer.  Must live in one of the qualifying counties, such as Lincoln, Lyon, or Yellow Medicine. See official application for more information. Deadline is April 1st.

 

MMUA “TOM BOVITZ MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP” PROGRAM—The Minnesota Municipal Utilities Association funds $5,000 in scholarships to winners of their essay contest.  1st place receives $2,000; 2nd -- $1,500; 3rd and 4th receive $500.00.  Essays are to be 500-1,000 words, typed and double-space.  Deadline: April 20.

 

BEST BUY SCHOLARSHIP: $1000.00 award to students in grades 9-12.  Students need solid grades plus community service or work experience.  Apply online at www.bestbuy-communityrelations.com  Apply December 26, 2011-February 15, 2012.

 

The Reuben Youngerberg Memorial Biodiesel Essay Scholarship (formerly the Clean Air Choice Scholarship is available to current high school seniors in the state of Minnesota with plans to attend postsecondary education.  Students must submit a brief (1,000 words or less) essay on the topic of biodiesel.  Two scholarships will be awarded.  The first place essay writer will receive a $1,600 scholarship; the second place essay writer will receive a $500 scholarship.  All essays and application materials must be submitted to the American Lung Association in Minnesota by 4:30pm on Friday, March 30, 2012.   Online entries are preferred. 

 

 

5th Annual Minnesota Athletes in Sports Medicine Scholarships are available to one male, one female who pursue a career in sports medicine.  Deadline is May 1st.  Application available in the file folder outside the counselor office doors.

 

Minnesota Association of Townships will award up to FOUR $1,000 scholarships to JUNIORS attending a MN school.  Winners will be chosen based on a written essay.  Deadline is May 1, 2012.  Applications available in the counselor’s office.

 

U.S./ Bank will be giving away 40 $1,000.00 scholarship at random to high school seniors who will be attending a U.S. Bank Student Loan eligible four-year college or university.  Apply online at usbank.com/scholarship.  Online applications will be accepted from October 2011 – March 2012.
