Dear Parents-
It doesn’t seem possible that we are already at the end of the 3rd week of school. Time sure does fly when you are having fun…We have had yet another busy week. We have been practicing our facts in math by taking a time test. Be sure to ask your child what level they are on. It is always great to have them practice with some flash cards a couple times a week. We try to take our timed test everyday. They are really starting to catch on to them.
In reading they read a story about a girl that could talk English and Spanish. She didn’t like this because she always had to help people with one of the languages. We have also been working on some dictionary work. This has been a little hard for some of us. We will continue to work on it and become experts on the dictionaryJ
I have included the words for the next two weeks of spelling. Next week we will do unit 3. We test on Wed. and if they pass that test they do not have to take the test again on Friday. I do not count the bonus words against them. I do make everyone try to do the bonus words. I will be starting something new with the kids next in spelling. If they get a 100% on the Wed. test they will be able to put their name in for the Friday drawing.
Which brings me to what the Friday drawing is? Each student has a chart on their desk. Every time they are caught doing something good they can get a sticker. I also give stickers for eating their whole lunch, walking quietly in the hall, doing extra work that they didn’t have to do. These are just some examples of things I give them for. As you can tell I am trying to encourage positive behaviors. After they get 5 stickers they get to sign a piece of paper and put it in for the Friday drawing. They get to do this after every 5 stickers that they get. Then on Fridays I will draw a name from there and this student will get a “surprise”. Last weeks student got a coupon for a “free assignment”. This is just something that the kids enjoy and they can hardly wait until Friday.
Starting next week in the Friday folders you will be getting a report on how your child’s week has gone. I will also include things that your child does very well on or maybe things that they need to work on. I am hoping that this will keep you and me on the “same page” with your child’s education and behaviors. If you ever have any questions please feel free to let me know.
Just a couple of requests…if anyone has some puzzles or games that they would like our class to use for a couple of weeks the kids would really appreciate it. The boys have been doing a puzzle over and over again and they just love it. I have some puzzles but they are 500-1000 pieces and that just takes them so long to complete. If you would be willing to share, we would love it.
Have a great weekend! Enjoy this gorgeous weather we are having, because we know what is right around the cornerJ
