Dear Parents,

This will be my third year teaching Second Grade.  I am looking forward to new challenges and improving my curriculum.  In the past I have taught both Kindergarten and First Grade.   I think my background has helped me adjust nicely to teaching Second Grade.

Your child will be bringing home some math, reading and spelling assignments in their RTR folders each Friday, plus other occasional assignments, that I would sure appreciate your guidance with at home.  Please have your child read their assignments aloud to you.  Students learn so much better when they have both the support of school and their parents.

Each Friday your child will bring home their Friday folder (RTR blue folders).  Please go through this as there is often important school information sent in these besides some homework. Folders, homework and reading booklets should be returned to school on Mondays.  About once a month  I will also be sending home a book order in which you may order books.  Please make the check out to  Scholastic Book Clubs.

We will be having a milk break in the afternoons.  A milk ticket may be purchased for $7.00 for 20 milks ($.35 @)).  Students may also bring a nutritious snack to have with their milk.  If they do not drink milk, they may bring a water bottle.  We will have juice or pop on special occasions.

Library will be on Wednesdays at 10:15a.m. this year.  Please help your child take good care of these books and return them each week so they can get new books.  We are encouraging them to check-out books they can read.  If they are an AR book, they can take the test on it.  We will continue to work on reading AR books and doing the testing.

Students may bring wrapped birthday treats for the class on the day we celebrate their birthday in school.  Saturday birthdays are usually celebrated on the Friday before while Sunday ones can be celebrated on Monday.  Summer birthdays are celebrated in January for June birthdays, February for July birthdays, and March for August birthdays (ex. June 20 would be celebrated on Jan. 20).  We have 16 students in our class.  We are a “Peanut Free” school now, so please consider that when you send treats.

If you have any concerns about your child or school, please contact me.  Our phone number at school is 507-658-3301.  My email address is deanna.larson@ rtrschools.org

Thank you for all that you do to make school important to your child.  Thanks also for all the help you provide.

                                                                                    Sincerely,

Mrs. Larson
